Fastlak dental sutures are flexible, synthetic, absorbable, sterile and multifilament (braided) dental surgical suture consisting of copolymer synthetized from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide (glycolic and lactide acid derivatives). It is in the empirical formula of copolymer (C2H2O2)m(C3H4O2)n form. Fastlak sutures have multifilament structure and consist of braided fibers. Fastlak absorbable surgical sutures are degraded with gamma rays to ensure fast hydrolysis/absorption.
Fastlak surgical dental sutures coating material is prepared from equal amount of calcium stearate and 30% glyocolide and 70% lactic acid mixture. The fast absorbable surgical suture is absorbable and do not cause irritation as it is used on living organisms.
