Non-absorbable dental surgical sutures are commonly preferred in oral, dental and maxillofacial surgeries by dentists. These are dental sutures that needs to be removed under the control of the dentist since these sutures are permanent after a surgical operation in the oral region, gum or maxillofacial area.

Non-absorbable dental sutures that are commonly used by oral, dental and maxillofacial dentists are natural organic silk, Monamid and Monoprolen. Monamid sutures have a monofilament structure. This means it consists of a single thread (string) and the chemical structure has a long-chained aliphatic polymer known as Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6. Monoprolen sutures also have a monofilament structure. The chemical structure contains synthetic linear polyolefin consisting of polypropylene isotactic crystal stereoisomer. Natural organic silk sutures consist of organic polymers called fibroin. These are coated and paraffin wax and silicon are used for coating.
